Most SMB POS platforms started as one thing — a credit-card terminal, a kitchen ticket printer, an online store builder — and spent the next decade bolting on adjacent products. The result is what every operator knows: five vendor logins, three integrations that “mostly” sync, and a Sunday-morning Excel ritual to make sure the books match reality.
We started Commerce OS with eight verticals as the design constraint. The data model didn’t learn restaurants and graft on retail; both informed it from the schema up. The customer in your POS, your online store, your loyalty program, your reservations book, and your marketing audience is one row, not five copies that drift over time.
We’re honest about the trade-off. We’re not the deepest reservations product (Resy has a multi-year head start). We’re not the most polished online store (Shopify outweighs us 100:1 on engineering). What we are building is a platform where every surface reads the same data — and where the consolidation math can be modeled before you switch.
If you’ve read this far, you’re probably an operator. Drop us a note — we’d rather understand your current setup than send you a demo deck.
